Previously known as Bombay, the city of Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra and 4th most populous city in the world. Home to a large 13 million people, Mumbai is 630 square kilometres in area and has a population density of around 55,794 people per square mile.
LOCATION
Located on the west coast of india on the shallows of the Arabian sea, Mumbai is renowned for having one of the largest trade ports in the world. It is commonly refers to as the island city as it is made up of a cluster of seven islands. These islands are Isle of Bombay, Mazagaon, Colaba, Old Woman's Island, Parel, Worli, and Salsette Island.
LANGUAGE
The official and most commonly spoken language of Mumbai is Marathi, just over 42% of the population speak Marathi, although english is spoken in the white collar work force. Other commonly spoken languages are Gujarati, Kannada, Telugu, Konkani, Dangii, Varhadii and Hindi.
